Wonderful day for more hikes.
Heading to Hickman Bridge. Wonderful trek and so worth the time.
Gotta have a few rock shots๐
Kinda neat as you can walk under the bridge too.
Decided to head over to the Grand Wash trail. Great views up the wash. Helps if no rain is expected. ๐
Gorge slims down as you approach the Narrows.
So hard to convey the massive scale of the canyon! Those are people walking in the background.
Petroglyphs, Fremont Culture.
Petroglyphs along Hwy 24. Worth stopping for.
Ok, here come the 3 P's, as Bruce would so fondly say: "Peering, Pondering, & Pontifficating"๐
Black boulders, found scattered throughout the Fremont River valley and along other drainages, are recent geologic arrivals to Capitol Reef. These volcanic rocks came from the 20 to 30 million year old lava flows which cap Boulder and Thousand Lake Mountains. The boulders made their way to Capitol Reef during the end of the Ice Age when the high plateaus supported small mountain glaciers. Landslides, debris flows, and possibly heavy stream outwash from these glaciers carried the boulders to lower elevations in the park.❤️๐❤️๐❤️๐❤️๐❤️๐❤️๐❤️๐
These rounded volcanic rocks have intrigued me, so glad to have found the explaination๐

Really enjoying your beautiful pictures!
So glad you are able to follow along. This is such an amazing NP!
Gorgeous scenery but I guess I say that at all the posts.
Glad you found the answer to your geological ponderings. My nearly flunking geology does not qualify me to answer well.
Not all those who wonder (ponder) are lost! Saw this yesterday and thought it was very fitting๐
